bpNichol Chapbook Award 2014

Congratulations to Christine McNair! pleasantries and other misdemeanours (Apt. 9 Press, 2013) has been included on the shortlist for the bpNichol Chapbook Award alongside five other exciting books from exciting presses:

Government: Jason Christie (above/ground)
Life Savings: Mat Laporte (Odourless)
pleasantries and other misdemeanours: Christine McNair (Apt. 9)
a fist made and then unmade: matt robinson (Gaspereau)
Oilywood: Christine Leclerc (Nomados)
X: Phil Hall (Thee Hellbox)

pleasantries and other misdemeanours was published in June 2013 and sold out nearly immediately. It was a tremendously exciting book to work on, and Apt. 9 was very proud to have published it. That hasn’t changed of course, and we are delighted to think that the book will be seen by new readers now. We are in the process of planning a reprint to have available at Meet the Presses in Toronto on November 22 where the award will be announced. If you missed it the first time around, you’ve got another chance!

Our congratulations to each writer and press on the shortlist. We’ve got 4/6 on our shelves already, and look forward to adding the final two. And a broader congratulations to the small press community in Canada. We love being a part of it.

[Apt. 9 would also like to point out that we have had the previous joy of publishing Phil Hall and Bardia Sinaee (publisher of Odourless Press)].
