Although a minimalist impulse has run through Robert Hogg’s poetry since his debut (The Connexions, 1966), Apothegms is his first book composed solely of short poems. With humour and grace, he marks the passing of time by looking at the state of things around him, and considers what poetry continues to offer: “I keep getting / more time // to write / all this // then / less”.
