Word Happens Poem reproduces a series of one-word pencil works by Barbara Caruso, produced during a “period of respite” from her painting and drawing. Nelson Ball, in an introductory statement to the book, writes that these works were made “around 1970 as a private gift to me”, and he connects them to Caruso’s career-long engagement with “the forms of letters and numbers.” A playful, personal, and remarkable book.
